The State of Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) and Iowa State University requires an assessment of basic skills in order to be admitted into an state approved Educator Preparation Program.

The computer-based Praxis CORE exam was launched in October 2013. As of October 1, 2013, Iowa State University students will be required to take this Praxis exam. The Praxis Core tests will consist of three sections:
If you are planning to register for all three Praxis Core tests at once, register for Test Number 5751 Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test.
When you register, LIST IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY AS A SCORE RECIPIENT. Iowa State University’s code is 6306. This will ensure Iowa State University receives your scores promptly.

Students wanting to apply to admission to the Teacher Preparation Program are required to take the Praxis CORE. If there are extenuating circumstances or information you would like considered, please talk with your advisor.
It is best to take Praxis CORE once you have taken some general education courses that increase your reading, writing, and mathematical knowledge base.
The preferred time period is at the end of your first year of college. You can take Praxis CORE while you are taking courses at a community college.
