Our Secondary Education Program will prepare you to teach secondary students at the middle school and high school levels. If you are interested in pursuing secondary education – if you want to be a middle school or high school teacher, you will first need to choose a major in your area of interest and enroll in the college where your major can be found. You'll then apply to the Educator Preparation Program to provide you professional courses on teaching, practicum experiences, student teaching assignments, and licensure guidance/steps.
At Iowa State University, our Secondary Education Program encourages you to become an expert in your subject matter by majoring in your content area. There are 13 undergraduate licensure areas offered at Iowa State University. First, you choose your major. Then you apply to our Education Preparation Program, upon acceptance and successful completion of the program you will be recommended for an initial license and become an educator.
