Have you ever thought of student teaching on a tropical island, nestled in the Pacific Ocean surrounded by beautiful beaches? The City of Kaohsiung is a large, thriving, global city on the southwestern coast of Taiwan facing the Taiwan Strait. With a population of nearly 3 million people, easy access to high speed rail, the Port of Kaohsiung, the Old City, and night markets, there is a lot going on in this exciting harbor community. Schools have recently shifted from English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to English as a Second Language (ESL), so opportunities for native English speakers with a teaching background are highly valued. You would live in a small apartment in the densely populated city center-near other ISU student teachers -and walk to and from your school each day. Class sizes are similar to those in central IA and there are opportunities to teach in your content area as well as in English and Language arts classrooms. You would have a host family to connect with culturally and socially, adding options for relationship building and evening/weekend outings. Take-out food is very popular and readily available, day and night. Best of all, the people you will interact with are among the most welcoming, fun, and generous people on the planet.
Housing Arrangement Description: The City of Kaohsiung will be providing either dormitory–style housing or a small apt. that would be shared with other ISU student teachers. It will be close to the assigned school campus and will allow for fully independent living, complete with internet. It will be within walking distance of numerous, inexpensive food vendors and café’s.
Additional Requirements: Three Orientation Meetings at Iowa State (Arranged)
