The Fred Duffelmeyer Reading Improvement Clinic offers tutoring in reading for children who are entering kindergarten through 12th grades. Tutoring sessions are conducted by advanced students in reading and related areas under the guidance of the literacy education faculty. The literacy faculty also provides outreach services in family and community literacy through ISU Extension activities.
Fall 2018 tutoring dates
Tutoring will begin on September 18 and will meet every Tuesday and Thursday until November 15. Sessions will begin at 5:30 pm and end at 7:00 pm.
Spring 2019 tutoring dates
Tutoring will begin on February 12 and will meet every Tuesday and Thursday until April 18. Tutoring sessions will begin at 5:30 pm and end at 7:00 pm.
Note: Due to Iowa State’s spring break, there will be no tutoring on March 19 and March 21.
Enrolling a student
Please fill out all of the forms in the following survey in order to enroll a student in the Duffelmeyer Reading Improvement Clinic. For any problems with enrollment, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
To give permission for tutors to communicate with your child’s teacher or for reports of previous testing to be sent to the Duffelmeyer Reading Clinic, complete the Teacher Forms. Typing your name on the form is considered to be your signature.
Note: Please register only if your child can attend all sessions.

Clinic schedule of services
- During the fall and spring semesters, tutoring sessions are offered for 75 minutes per session twice a week for 8 weeks.
- During the summer semester, tutoring sessions are offered for 75 minutes per session, four times a week for three weeks.
All tutoring occurs on campus in classroom space monitored by School of Education staff and faculty. Tutors work closely with parents via periodic notes and individual conferences to communicate progress.
