Application process

The admission and application process for the Instructional Design Graduate Certificate is competitive and limited to the most highly qualified students.

To apply to the Instructional Design Graduate Certificate program you will need to complete the Iowa State Graduate College application. Please review the Graduate College application requirements.

  • Note: If you have not previously been admitted to the Graduate College at Iowa State University, you must complete the online graduate application through the Iowa State Admissions office. Please disregard any application acceptance dates that may be listed on the Iowa State University-wide admissions site and continue with your application as prompted through their website.

Not enrolled in a graduate degree program

Supplemental materials:

  1. A letter of application briefly describing your background and how this Certificate in Instructional Design may benefit your current work and/or future career (maximum two pages)
  2. Evidence of your undergraduate GPA (academic transcripts)
  3. Evidence of your graduate GPA (if applicable)
  4. Evidence of your TOEFL Score (for international applicants)
  5. One academic letter of reference supporting your application
  6. Curriculum vitae or résumé

Enrolled in a graduate degree program

Supplemental materials:

  1. Complete a request to add a certificate to a degree program form prior to completing more than 6 credits toward the certificate and no later than the semester prior to the last class of your certificate program.
  2. Write a letter of application briefly describing your background and how this Certificate in Instructional Design may benefit your current work and/or future career (maximum two pages); 
  3. Submit a curriculum vitae or résumé

You need to complete this process before you have completed more than 6 credits toward the certificate and no later than the semester prior to the last class for your certificate program. You will also need to complete a certificate Program of Study form, which will also need to be completed no later than the semester prior to the last class for your certificate program. 

Deadline

  • Fall enrollment. All materials are due April 15.
  • Spring enrollment. All materials are due September 30.

Submitting materials

Application materials should be sent to the School of Education graduate support specialist
